Customer Requests

The most important things our customer wanted out of their remodel were:

  • low-maintenance siding
  • security
  • strong manufacturer warranty manufacturer
  • hail and fire-proof materials

They were interested in replacing their windows as well as their siding, so they expressed the desire for modern and secure replacement windows. They were looking for double-hung windows with full screen, argon gas, Loe E, wood interior and fiberglass exterior.

Finally, they wanted to incorporate some stone work on the front of their home as well as adding a pergola to increase curb appeal and add more character.

Because we always strive to satisfy our clients and provide a stress-free process with only the highest building materials, we have our clients ask us questions from start to finish so that they're happy and comfortable with our work.

Now, let's take a look at how we met their remodeling needs!

Design Process

Once we agreed on the right products for this client's requests, we began by showing them the color combinations they were curious about using in their remodel. After browsing their options, they decided on white siding with black soffit, fascia and gutters as well as black windows. With a grey-toned stone and white pergola, this exterior design started coming to life. We love to help our clients design, build and remodel!

Take a look below at some of the preliminary designs we created prior to beginning the remodeling process.

New call-to-action

Remodeling Process

After discussing and deciding on the materials to use for this project, we began the actual remodeling process. You can see a full detailed list of the products we used on this home below:

James Hardie Siding

For the exterior, our customer decided on James Hardie 7.25" Cedarmill Lap Siding in Arctic White from their Statement Collection. On front second floor, we used the James Hardie Panel System, also known as board and batten, in a smooth finish. All Hardie products come with their exclusive ColorPlus Technology.

James Hardie Trim

As a trim we used James Hardie Trim in Arctic White from their Statement Collection with a smooth finish. On the windows we used 3.5’’ trim and on exterior corners, we used 5.5’’ x 3.5’’. Again, all of these products come with ColorPlus Technology.

Stone Work

The stone that we added to the front of the home's exterior was Versetta Stone, a imitation stone product. We went with their Ledgestone Style in a grey color called Mission Point.

Windows

In order to create the modern look and still have great security, we installed Marvin Elevate Collection Windows. As a "full frame replacement" window installation, these new windows have a 3.5" interior trim painted white. All the windows are double-hung and black on the exterior with a white interior, per the client's request.

Soffit, Fascia and Gutters

We installed an all new aluminum soffit and fascia system in black from Norandex. We also installed a new 5’’ aluminum gutters system with 4’’ x 3’’ oversize downspouts in black.

Pergola

We built this beautiful pergola using cedar wood and we painted the structure white using an exterior paint from Sherwin Williams. All of the pergola posts have concrete piers, approved and built according to Elmhurst, IL building codes.

Our Crew

Our entire crew had the pleasure of working on this project. Chris, our Project Manager, with the help of Andy, Peter, Mathew and Stanley completed this beautiful remodel. I would like to thank them for all their hard work and hope that our future customers will have the pleasure to work with them as well. Thank You Team!

Mark and his team did a terrific job and I could not be more pleased with the final work! Throughout whole siding installation process I was kept well informed about the progress and what will be next steps in the process. I'm living in Arlington Heights and anyone who is looking for great siding contractor can stop by my house and check their amazing work. I also plan on hiring them again for another siding project. That would be my parent's home. 🙂

I researched over 30 companies, and had 5 come out to my house to give me estimates to install new vinyl siding. I ended up going with Smardbuild, and I am very happy that I did. They showed up on time, and finished the entire job within a week. And the quality of the work is the best part. They are perfectionists! I have never seen attention to detail like this. They even went above and beyond the job requirements. They installed aluminum flashing around my sliding glass door to make it look nicer, and that was not even part of the job. And to top it off, they installed 2 new wall lanterns that I bought at Home Depot.

We used Mark and his Smardbuild team to replace our roof, soffits, fascia, siding, upstairs windows, gutters and front door. All work performed is top notch. We went with Hardie soffits and fascia since we had prior issues with carpenter bees drilling holes in our old, wooden soffits. In my opinion Smardbuild is the best with Hardie products. Everything looks great. It took us a while to finally settle on a color for the siding and Smardbuild was quite patient with our process. After having issues with contractors in the past, it was refreshing to work with such a professional team that actually cares about the quality of their work. Thanks Smardbuild.
