When Is the Best Time to Remodel in Naperville?

At some point in your home renovation journey, it’s time to bring in the professionals and undertake a major home remodeling project. The grody old siding has got to go! The front door is an eyesore. Many people consider every detail of their remodel before considering the timeline for their renovation. The best time to begin your remodel depends on various factors, such as your contractor’s availability and the type of project you have planned. We’re happy to talk about the various ways in which timing will affect your upcoming remodel in Chicagoland so you can come one step closer to a complete picture of the remodeling process.

How Often Should You Renovate Your Home?

You should remodel your home on your own timeline. To keep current with colors, finishes, and trends, experts recommend a remodel every 5-15 years. Many people go much longer between home renovations and make smaller improvements between major projects. If you notice significant wear on important features that protect your home, like siding, it is time for a remodel. Safeguard your home’s value by keeping it attractive and in good repair. Don’t let thirty years go by without any updates to your home’s look and feel.

How Long Does it Take to Remodel A House?

The length of time your remodel will take to complete depends on the size and scope of your project. An exterior remodel takes about 1-2 months, whereas a kitchen remodel could take as long as four months. Projects that replace old products with new ones without changing the placement of major elements like doors, walls, and windows, or plumbing and electrical, are faster. Your builder will be able to provide a much more specific timeline for your remodeling project.

What Is the Best Season to Remodel a House?

The best season to remodel depends on your aims. Contractors are more available in the winter, but projects take longer. Everything bustles in spring and summer construction, so your team hits their stride quickly. Of course, participating in the busy season has its own drawbacks, such as possible mix-ups and communication delays.

If we are working inside, as in a kitchen or bathroom renovation, the season matters much less than it does for an exterior remodel or addition. There is some benefit from remodeling during the colder months, as material prices trend down nationally. The slowest time of year for contractors is winter. There have been so many advances in building technology that exterior remodels are very possible in the winter. That said, there’s very little anyone can do about the frequency of blizzards and other inclement weather during winter in Illinois. It takes longer to renovate in the winter if you are working outside. Winter is the slowest time of year for most contractors, so some top builders may have more availability. Subcontractors and inspectors may also be more quickly available.

Availability is an important conversation to have with a prospective remodeler. Many clients are surprised that contractors near them are booking months, if not years in advance for remodeling projects.

Is 2022 a Good Time to Remodel a House?

It seems unlikely that construction costs will decrease appreciably in 2023. This shouldn’t deter you from remodeling. As costs increase, the best time to lock in your price passes each day. In a tight real estate market, many homeowners find that a remodel avoids the stress of entering the frantic housing market. A remodel guarantees that you choose every feature and aspect of your project, without the hassle of moving. If you purchased your home at a lower interest rate than the market rate, moving may scale up your costs far further than a remodel.

When Should I Wait to Renovate?

Remodeling an old home can be overwhelming, so selecting the ideal time for your exterior renovation is important. You may have to wait on your remodel if you want to work with a quality contractor. You may also want to wait on your remodel if you are moving into a new space you haven’t yet used. We understand the appeal of getting the renovation out of the way before you move in, but you may miss out on opportunities for upgrades if you remodel before you know where all your frustrations are located, you may not address them all with your renovation and inadvertently sentence yourself to more prolonged frustration.

Mark and his team did a terrific job and I could not be more pleased with the final work! Throughout whole siding installation process I was kept well informed about the progress and what will be next steps in the process. I'm living in Arlington Heights and anyone who is looking for great siding contractor can stop by my house and check their amazing work. I also plan on hiring them again for another siding project. That would be my parent's home. 🙂

I researched over 30 companies, and had 5 come out to my house to give me estimates to install new vinyl siding. I ended up going with Smardbuild, and I am very happy that I did. They showed up on time, and finished the entire job within a week. And the quality of the work is the best part. They are perfectionists! I have never seen attention to detail like this. They even went above and beyond the job requirements. They installed aluminum flashing around my sliding glass door to make it look nicer, and that was not even part of the job. And to top it off, they installed 2 new wall lanterns that I bought at Home Depot.

We used Mark and his Smardbuild team to replace our roof, soffits, fascia, siding, upstairs windows, gutters and front door. All work performed is top notch. We went with Hardie soffits and fascia since we had prior issues with carpenter bees drilling holes in our old, wooden soffits. In my opinion Smardbuild is the best with Hardie products. Everything looks great. It took us a while to finally settle on a color for the siding and Smardbuild was quite patient with our process. After having issues with contractors in the past, it was refreshing to work with such a professional team that actually cares about the quality of their work. Thanks Smardbuild.
